The Oscars!

Here are my picks for best dressed!  I chose to post about the dresses I loved the most and leave out the ones that didn't speak to me.

This is Jamie Foxx's daughter Corinne.  She is stunning, isn't she?  Absolutely gorgeous!  And it doesn't hurt that this shade of blue is my personal favourite.  She pulls it off flawlessly with just the right amount of embellishment around the waistline.  This was the first dress that truly caught my eye on the red carpet tonight.

At first, I saw this dress and I thought it was too much.  Maybe bordering on tacky.  But when I thought about it, if I were an Oscar winner, presenting in the presence of 1 billion viewers on Oscar night, I'd probably pick something that pushed the envelope, too. Ms Berry is already perfection as it is, but her dress is one example of at least 3 like it that use black and white or silver geometric patterns (halle berry, michelle obama, stacy keibler).  A trend!

A princess-y style dress.  I think this colour is interesting for Amy Adams, I would've liked to see some sparkle amidst the fluff.  But it's lovely and dreamy, nonetheless.

I love Zoe Saldana's style choices!  This dress is looooovely and elegant with a touch of drama along the bottom and train.  And a touch of girlyness at the neckline!  So fun!  And yet appropriate for her at this event.  Love!!!

I liked the colour of this dress and the ruffle in the back made it event-appropriate. Without that ruffle, this dress would be boring!

Not a fan of these dresses, per se, but here's another trend - back-hanging necklaces!  Interesting idea!  As a hijabi, this looks like an opportunity..... though I suspect it's meant for open-backed dresses, I think this trend has potenital for styling a glam-loving-hijab-star. :)

And now to catch up on all these movies I've missed.... Til next time!  :) <3

Hijab-Star Sighting!

I love seeing beautiful hijabi girls rocking major style.  Whether at the mall, at work, or out on the mean streets of Toronto, when you represent and bring your best self out from within, I feel it!  I love it!  I am so proud to be your sister. :)

Here is one such example of a stylin' hijab-star.  I met her at a party last weekend and had to capture her outfit because of her perfect balance between modesty, style and personal flavour.  Again, the art is in the details - Swarovski crystals line her delicate scarf!:)  And she reminded me of one very important fact about our challenge as hijabis:  Its about knowing yourself, knowing where your priorities lie, and ensuring your outside matches your beautiful inside.

Check her trendy blouse with pocket and shoulder details, distressed denim, matching belt, cute bag and lovely smile!

Here's to (hopefully) the first of many future Hijab-Star Sightings! :)

***Shout-out to my little sister in this picture - the cutest lil thing a big sister could ask for!***

The GRAMMYs!

I love music.  I love watching artists perform live because there's so much more passion in the nuances of a live performance that draw whoops and tears and chills outta me.  And I'm a sucker for acoustic guitar. :)  I've been looking forward to the Grammys for a month!  And when they announced Frank Ocean, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake performances, you know I flipped out!

Every awards show has a red carpet pre-show and who better than musicians to flaunt gorgeous new and artful outfits.  Here's my take on some of the outfits that really caught my attention on the red carpet tonight!

Rihanna - red dress, red lips, soft hair - This red really suits her warm skin tone,  and is perfectly fit to her slim upper body, the fabric cuts at the torso were sharp and contrasted well against the softness of the fabric at the bottom half of the dress.

Taylor Swift - This dress is simply elegant.  I really like that silver straight line near the neck that goes straight down to the waistline.  That piece elevates the whole dress from the every-day-wannabe-grammy-worthy to red-carpet-worthy!

Carrie Underwood - so hot!  Perfection in all the details.  I am a huge fan of the pattern!  So feminine and pretty.  Love!

Justin Timberlake - Not that I'm biased, but he looks so good. ;) I love the pocket insert with white trim detail.  Not too much or too little, but rather just enough to show off some personality.  Not sure I care for the bowtie style, but hey, this suit is cut perfectly for his (amazing) body, so I'm willing to look past it.

Other notables:

Sting
Nicole Kidman
Bruno Mars
Pharrell
Kelly (DC3)
John Mayer's blue coat

Here are my "What the hell were you thinking?" mentionables:

LL Cool J - Stop with the hat.  No picture required.

Beyonce - Black and white catsuit - not a fan.  Too simple for the occasion!

Jennifer Lopez - Nice shoes but that dress looked like an extended swimsuit.  Disliked the hairstyle, too!

Ed Sheeran - Oh ye with the red hair and milky white skin, a black suit is a no-no! Great suit, wrong colour.  But I dig the hair cut.

Florence Welch - What was with the green stegosaurus get-up? Make-up is all wrong, hair is boring.  She needs a stylist.  With her summer complexion, there are a million choices for colour and fabric out there better than this one!

Katie Perry - Is that a dress or mint-coloured saran wrap? And yes, we see the colourful barnacle situation competing with her boobs.  Not my favourite outfit of hers.

Signing off for now..... Going to catch the rest of the Grammys! :) <3

Hello World.....

Hello World.....

I'm blogging for the first time!  *Look ma, no hands!*

I'm going to experiment here and there, so you might see some changes as I go.  I'm just excited to start something new and creative like this!  Especially about something I enjoy!  I have a few ideas for my next few blog posts.

But for now, I think I'll post some pictures of pretty things I love.  Perhaps this first post will be my way of telling you more about me.

TTFN!  <3
